Art is more than a hobby. It is self-expression, but also observation, interpretation and response to the world around us. We discover joy through the creative process. From the time they were six months old, my sons and I have drawn and painted together, and have daily opportunity to create freely. My oldest was fascinated by cars, and as a four-year-old, practiced drawing them for hours each day for an entire year using various mediums. Through this process, he improved his writing skills, his understanding of color, his ability with different mediums, and his ability to persist through difficult challenges. Art became his happy spot, especially on days that were emotionally challenging for him. He continues to develop resilience and self-confidence through his artistic journey and maintains an insatiable desire to create. My youngest discovered a love for acrylic pour painting at two years old, and loves to experiment with texture and new tools as he paints. Both boys have expanded their worlds through art.

I believe that all children can benefit from doing art, just like my boys, and I am passionate about teaching art to kids. I want them to experience the same joy and benefits that my children have and to see a spark ignited when they discover that they each have a unique interpretation of life to share with the world.

In our children’s art classes, kids (ages 2 to 18) will explore the world of art through both fine art instruction and process art. Younger children will have the opportunity to create freely with found objects and art supplies; to make messes and delight in their masterpieces. We will learn about the elements of art (color, line, shape, form, texture, space and value), historical artworks, and a wide variety of methods including oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, tempera, drawing, mixed media, and more.

Don't worry about the mess! We provide all supplies and take care of the cleanup, so parents can relax and enjoy watching their kids embrace creativity.

I know firsthand that families are busy! Don't let that stop you from enjoying artistic pursuits. I offer a variety of flexible options to fit your needs, including:

  • Private classes: One-on-one instruction for your child or family.

  • Private group classes: Schedule a time for your group to meet for a private class.

  • Group classes at Gather Kids Place Community Center (Calendar for scheduled events!).

  • Homeschooling groups: I offer art classes for homeschooled students on a per-semester basis.

  • Birthday parties: Host a unique and creative birthday party for your child at your location of choice. I’ll bring the materials!
